The Lloyd Gaines story remains a mystery
After the University of Missouri was ordered to admit Gaines to its law school in 1938, despite the fact that it barred black students, he disappeared and was never seen again. You can read the New York Times version of the story here.
In anticipation of the upcoming exhibit, RACE: Are We So Different? January of 2010,the Missouri History Museum, The St. Louis Beacon and KETC Channel 9 have partnered to create a yearlong series of events, in-depth articles and video pieces that focus on issues of race and discrimination in our region. This is an ongoing regional conversation, and this website is a place for any organization participating in that conversation to share its events, content and general information. It's also a forum to discuss articles and issues about race that are not directly tied to any specific partner or the region.
